The Mugs Shirt Process

 

Here is a glimpse of the process behind the one-of-a-kind Planet Rump shirts currently being created by Chris Mulligan aka Mugs. After applying paint to a group of shirts, Mugs goes over each shirt individually with black fabric marker to add detail and unique lettering. These shirts are made to order for our Kickstarter backers, and will be sent out along with our completed album within a month! We are getting ever-closer to sharing more than a year's worth of new music with you, so stay tuned!

We have been jammin to this tune ever since JD Samson spun it at her weekly Scissor Sundays party at The Rusty Knot. Such a dope track!

It's a solid visual throwback complete with fierce dancers, including Tigga Calore. We first saw her original performance at Will Sheridan's monthly party at Fat Baby (one is happening TONIGHT!). We're all connected in this funky electro underground family!

One-of-a-kind Planet Rump shirts by Mugs

Here at Rump Headquarters, we are in the midst of putting the final touches on our upcoming 9-track album! The album was made possible by backers on Kickstarter, and as part of their rewards, local artist and long-time buddy Chris Mulligan aka Mugs, is making one-of-a-kind t-shirts. Check out part of his process above. After applying unique paint patterns to each shirt, he goes back over the design with a black marker for the final detailing and type. RAD!

We just had the honor of previewing Chico Mann's upcoming full length album, Magical Thinking, and were blown away by its rich texture and universal appeal. Not that we should be surprised — this dude is a musical shaman, raising us up on his fluffy bed of inspiring harmonics while holding the mirror of true nature to our faces. An inspiration and mentor from day one, we offer mad respect to his majesty.

Planet Rump DJs in the place to be

What up Rump Nation! The past few months have been sizzling as we continue to pour our hearts, souls and hours into our upcoming album. Each track DJ Tantric produces is doper and fresher than the one before, and taking our time is proving to be the best method for a killer result. With many tracks in the adept hands of Phil Moffa at Butcha Sound, we just have a few more to lay down.

In the meantime, we've been keeping up on our DJ game. We just released Planet Rump Radio #7 today: an eclectic booty-poppin mix that's part NYC underground electro mixtape, part twerk-out mix, part sampler of the latest releases by our favorite major label influences, plus a few bangin remixes thrown in for good measure. So put on your booty shorts, get in front of a full length mirror, crank this mix and warm up to summer! Plus, episodes #1-6 are up on our Soundcloud awaiting your ears, comments, and (free) downloads!

We've also been tearing up the NYC party scene with our tag team DJ sets. We helped the party-loving friends and family of B-Reel warp their new NYC offices into the set of MTV's The Grind circa 1994. We celebrated Chappo's record release and kicked off their U.S. tour with a basement get-down at Dominion. And coming up, don't miss DJ Tantric at Sullivan Hall on June 1 with SNAKATAK and Tessa G. and Dynasty Electric!

Kickstarter success and gettin funky in the studio!

Thank you to all our supporters on Kickstarter for making our dreams come true! We surpassed our goal and raised $2,528 to record our next album, and we've been getting busy at Butcha Sound Studios, Manhattan since mid-January. Using a spaceship console-esque mixing board and analog gear to get the juiciest sounds in the universe, owner/engineer/producer Phil Moffa is taking our tracks to the next level. We are so pumped at how the first few songs are sounding, and we can't wait to share them with you! For now, we can give you a little taste of the studio experience with some snapshots. Daydreams by Planet Rump

Fresh from the depths of Brooklyn's underground: Planet Rump presents a new hyper electro banger Daydreams [free download]! Lots of synths and breakbeats to keep you amped on this one with tasty vocals from Miss Strawberry and contributions from Sherm Sherm. Made with the help of Emmy-nominated mixing engineer Joe Colmenero and mastering help from international producer Jeffrey Swart. A prelude of what is to come from Planet Rump in 2012!!

Saturday show just announced!

Hey rump-shakers, good news! We just got asked to perform live this Saturday at Cafe Orwell (247 Varet St in Bush-burg). Another Disco Mike production, this show will most definitely get hot and sweaty real quick! Come check out our brand-new live set, which now combines our original dance jams with our fun-loving DJ set! It's a non-stop body-rocking booty odyssey, so come rejoice! We hit the stage at 9pm. See you on the dancefloor!

News flash from Planet Rump

Things are really starting to heat up here on Planet Rump. Freshly inspired and empowered by our mecca to Burning Man, our proverbial pot of water is on the brink of boiling and will soon be spilling over with tons of new music! We are days away from releasing our new single Daydreams, and soon we'll be getting back into the studio, recording and mixing our upcoming album due out in early 2012! In the meantime we'll be shooting the Daydreams music video and remixing tons of jams, delivering them straight to the dancefloor. We also have a few live and DJ gigs lined up (check the right column >> ). So stay tuned, we're about to serve up some brand-spankin-new funk for that rump!

Jacuzzihidive is coming to NYC next week!

Attention funk fans: Jacuzzihidive, an up-and-coming electro-funk band from Las Vegas, is coming to NYC and playing 2 shows with Planet Rump next week! We are huge fans of these party rockers. Just imagine the vocals of early Madonna over the guitars and synths of Chromeo... or just check out their music here, and their video below.

Upcoming Events

Hey sexy rump shakers! The summer is gettin HOT and so is Planet Rump! With frequent DJ nights and special live performances featuring more new original jams to get down to, we are keeping booties in motion on dancefloors across the boroughs!

Come sweat it out this Thursday, July 28 at Legion's new monthly dance party, LEGION OF BOOTY. Planet Rump will be DJing booty/electro/house/funk in the front room from 10 to 4 while simultaneously hosting Earth's brandest newest live electro acts in the back room. We are proud to present the debut of Tessa Greenberg's solo project (of Tayisha Busay), Preston Reset, and Jonathan and Bpro! Wear short shorts or spandex to get in the back for $3! (regular cover for the bands is $5, the front room DJ party is free)

Then, next Tuesday, August 2, we'll slay the dancefloor with our live electrofunk performance at Will Sheridan's Eclectic Collective along with Great Tiger, Radio Musik and Jonathan and Bpro! DJ Lorant will be holding it down between sets. We go on at 10:30, but these electro stars are not to be missed! Catch them all from 9-12 at Fat Baby.
