Dynasty Electric!
We were very delighted to meet Jenny Electrik Dynasty Electric on Saturday at the 3rd Ward Handmade Holiday Craft Fair. She is a very funky lady, with the voice of a power-angel and a killer electro/pop/rock band with multi-instrumentalist Seth Misterka and drummer Shimon Hikri. Their upcoming album “Golden Arrows” was produced by Ski Beatz and their new single “Electric Love” has a guest appearance from Yeah Yeah Yeahs' drummer. Definitely stay tuned and catch them live soon! Planet Rump will be there with arms raised high on the dancefloor for sure.

UTOPIA recap video
Utopia was a huge success on a scale of creative liberation. Friends gathered to share artwork, performance, poetry, music, dance, video, live painting, and a strong sense of community and love. The newly renovated Cameo Art Gallery (behind the Lovin' Cup Cafe in Williamsburg, Brooklyn) provided the perfect venue for the omni-media art event.
Curated and hung by artist Atalay Harrison, the walls beamed with--mostly debut--expressions of Utopia. Brendan McCarthy's installation "La Foret Rose" created a magical indoor forest of pink trees for people to play in and explore.
DJ Coverboy opened up the night with funky beats. Christos Mountzouros' group nest+rest played painfully beautiful songs while Zach Fisher painted Christos' all-white attire and body. Zach followed up their set with a poignant yet uplifting poem.
Dangeroo Duo took us on a psychedelic rock odyssey, and was later joined by jazz singer Alex Nelson.
Bad Brilliance and Suspicious Package presented their collaborative bio-pop music video "Hummingbird," followed by a behind-the-scenes montage. Ashlynn Manning of Suspicious Package gave us a special treat with an acapella performance of their upcoming single "Bird of Prey."
Toby Dick rocked the stage and then created a painting live. Hayley Sunshine, Kayli Szczepankiewicz, and Kelsey Emmett performed an original dance called "Align," and then Hayley and Kayli did a quick costume change to become the Back-It-Up Dancers for Planet Rump's set.
After Planet Rump tore the roof of the mutha, Yer Boyfriend's Band Sux took the stage for a late-night performance art piece featuring a ghost playing the mandola and a roll of plastic wrap that ended up tying the entire audience in a convoluted web. Magick Report took us home with bumping beats and funky synths. DJ Lorant held it down between sets.
The theme of the night made for an overwhelming feeling of acceptance and love among the audience and artists. People were riding the high of the event for days to come, and another installment of Utopia is in the works for late winter. Stay tuned, rumpateers: this is just the beginning.

New video by Kelis is BEYOND!
Mindblowing! Kelis has created a full-fledged art piece with this song and video. It's got it all: beauty, wisdom, mystery, imagination, and a bumpin dance beat. It's so inspiring on so many levels, we can barely get a grip watching it. And by the end, when you realize she's singing about her newborn child, the tears start flowing. What better way to pay tribute to the miracle of life than with a life-changing work of art. And to think her first single was "I Hate You So Much Right Now"... she's come a long way, baby. Thank you Kelis, absolutely stunning!
Acapella is off her new album Flesh Tone. Cop it!

Jillian Lanier: funky fashion dance party!
Brooklyn-based handmade clothing designer (and our superfriend) Jillian Lanier exploded into the spotlight last Saturday at Williamsburg Fashion Weekend at Glasslands. Her Fall 2010 collection features wearable, fun, funky, bohemian ladies clothes. (She also makes killer fresh men's tees and sweaters.) Contact her for custom orders on Esty!

Miguel: Breath of Fresh Air in the Mainstream
Thanks to our own Nasty Ness for turning us on to new Jive artist Miguel Jontel. His music is soulful, unique, and has much more depth than most of the cookie-cutter cuts you hear on the radio these days. Check out his video for "All I Want Is You" below. Also, be sure to download his mixtape "Mischief". Good ish, especially "Ooh Ahh!" Way to keep it real, Miguel!

GRUM Summer Mix
Grum's latest mixtape for summer is available to play and download for free exclusively at our friends NYCelectro. This young Scottish producer is the new ill DJ on the electro scene. His music speaks for itself—it's just damn good. Check out his debut album (released back in May) and other releases on his website. Another interesting aspect that you can read about here is that his album/poster artwork (see below) is actually a barcode: you can take a photo of it on the street or in a magazine, using a couple specific iPhone apps, and it will direct you to his album on the iTunes store. In the meantime, just listen to this summer mix and dance, dance, dance.

Collage of the Eclectic Collective
W!ll Sheridan's monthly party Eclectic Collective was jam packed Tuesday night for a showcase of some of the freshest NEXT-wave music acts on the scene. From studio-pop stud Peter Kirk, to brand new hip-hop/pop artist from Chi-town Gavin, to dance explosion sexy trio Radio Musik, the crowd responded with uproarious zeal. Then after a set from DJ Bonnie Danger, W!LL slam-dunked the funk with his most epic set yet, complete with army themed stage, banana-throwing antics, strobe light interlude, plenty of call and response and a capella rhyming. Even his collabo with Nasty Ness (of Planet Rump) "Set Fire To The Streets" was surging with more power than ever. Download the Great Tiger remix here. Speaking of Great Tiger, they rounded out the night with a funky electro odyssey, full of energy, charisma and laser pointers dancing across them from the audience. Re-live the experience by watching the collage below, and don't miss the next one!

Wallpaper. brought the funky fresh West Coast vibe to Brooklyn Bowl Sunday night
Wallpaper., an Oakland, California duo, put on a funky/freaky/smooth/krump/fun show for Nicky Digital's "The Deep End" party series, the Official Pool Parties After Parties, at Brooklyn Bowl Sunday night. If you don't know these guys by now, check out their video for "T-Rex"—this shit blew us out of our chairs a few months ago and we can't get enough. One mention of the song and it's in our heads for weeks. "I go BIG on the weeeekeeend, I go T-REX." Pure genius. Their set did not disappoint: they performed their entire album "Doo Doo Face" [cop it here] and it was a freaky dance get down. Ricky laid the smooth moves on us while Arjun kept the beat in his pocket. Check out this live footage to get a taste, and don't miss them next time they're in town! They're on tour now so catch em if you can! Tonight's stop: DC.

The Radiant Child: A brilliant film of a brilliant man
The new Jean-Michel Basquiat documentary is a must-see. It tells the story of his art career—from being a truly inspired teen to becoming a hugely famous artist in less than 10 years and then leaving this world at the age of 27. He left over one thousand paintings and one thousand drawings for us to explore, decode and feel for years to come. An incredible body of work that analyzed, synthesized, prophetized and expressed our human culture and history, frame after frame. He was a truly pure being, operating from his soul and letting his knowledge flow back out through him in automatically.
The film is playing now at Film Forum on Houston between 6th & 7th Aves. You should probably also pre-order the DVD now. It's a classic.

Planet Rump at Northside Festival this Saturday!
The L Magazine's Northside Festival has made a brave and very smart move by welcoming the House of Yes and Tayisha Busay as they present a night of the brightest, baddest, chrome-covered, high-bouncing music and righteous showmanship that you can only find in the bottom of a Lucky Charms box, OR at this show. Bad Brilliance >> has a very large and very strange yellow ball head and his music will blow your mind
